  107. program which supports the Adobe Photoshop 3.0 Plug-in Standard.
  108. If the application you wish to use does not appear in this list,
  109. please consult the applicationÆs manual or contact the manufacturerÆs 
  110. technical support team to verify that the application supports
  111. such standards.

  133. E. WHAT GETS INSTALLED:

  136. The installation consists of the following files and documents:

  138. - Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 Plug-in File
  139. - Readme.txt
  140. - PGE Application
  141. - PGE Manual
  142. - Distort tile Af435.afx

  144. The content files do NOT get installed to your hard drive during the
  145. installation process due to their size and number.  If you wish to 
  146. copy them to your hard drive, you can do so at any time after the 
  147. installation has been completed.
  148.  
  149. The electronic version of the Photo/Graphic Edges Manual also
  150. remains on the CD-ROM.

  154. F. INSTALLING THE PLUG-IN:
  155. ----------------------------------------------

  157. To begin installing Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0, simply click on the installer
  158. icon and follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be prompted to select
  159. the folder for your applicationÆs Photoshop compatible plug-in directory.
  160. Photo/Graphic Edges will appear in the applicationÆs pull-down menu where 
  161. Photoshop plug-ins are accessible.
  162.  
  163. Depending on the application, you may have to identify (usually through
  164. the File>Preferences Menu in the host application) the folder where the 
  165. plug-in resides.  Consult your host applicationÆs manual or call their 
  166. technical support if you need further assistance in determining where 
  167. Photoshop plug-ins go and how to access them.
  168.  
  169. For PageMaker and Freehand products, fixed locations for the plug-ins
  170. are used.  You must install the plug-in in these locations for the host
  171. application to access the plug0in properly:

  173.     PageMaker:  Pm6/Rsrc/UsEnglsh/Plugins/Effects
  174.     Freehand:  Fh7/Usenglsh/Xtras
  175.  
  176. (Note: You may need to substitute "Usenglsh" with your international
  177. version folder name if required.)

  179. For any other applications, you can typically place the plug-ins in 
  180. any folder but you may have to initialize the location using the
  181. applicationÆs Preferences.  The following application reference list 
  182. identifies where you set the plug-inÆs location:

  194. G. RUNNING THE PLUG-IN FROM YOUR HOST APPLICATION:
  195. --------------------------------------------------------
  196.  
  197. To set up the effect in an image editing application, you must first have an 
  198. image file open.  If there is a selection made, the effect will only be applied
  199. to the selected area only; if there is no selection, the effect is applied 
  200. to the entire image.
  201.  
  202. To set up the effect in a layout or illustration application, you must have
  203. first placed an image and have the picture box selected or image area for
  204. the effect selected for the plug-in to be available in the plug-ins menu.
  205.  
  206. If you have set up the image and installed the software correctly, the 
  207. Photo/Graphic Edges plug-in will be visible from within the host 
  208. application.  Because each host application may access plug-ins 
  209. differently, the following list of host applications and related menu
  210.  commands  to access Photoshop compatible plug-ins is provided.

  212. - Canvas:  Image>Filter>Auto F/X
  213. - Illustrator:  Filter>Auto F/X
  214. - PageMaker:  Element>Image>Photoshop Effects>Auto F/X
  215. - Photoshop:  Filter>Auto F/X
  216. - PhotoDeluxe:  Effects>Auto F/X
  217. - PhotoPaint:  Effects>Auto F/X

  220. H. USING THE STAND-ALONE APPLICATION:
  221. --------------------------------------------------------

  223. Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 can also be used as a Stand-Alone application.  
  224. The executable file is accessable through your start menu.  When you 
  225. launch the application, you will be prompted with an Open Dialog box.
  226. At this point, you should select the image that you wish to edge.  
  227. (The application can open any regularly formatted graphic file.  
  228. These include:  PSD, TIF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, TGA, EPS, PNG, PICT, and PCX.) 
  229. Once the application is open, it functions just as the plug-in version. 
  230. When you are ready to Save your final image, simply click the Save button
  231. and choose the format in which you wish to save your artwork.

  233. The Stand-Alone Application might be advisable to use if your system is
  234. low on memory as the system wouldn't have the extra bulk of the
  235. host application running.

  239. I. MEMORY MANAGEMENT:
  240. -------------------------------------

  242. Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 gets its memory from both RAM and Virtual 
  243. Memory from your startup system hard drive.  It is helpful to set 
  244. the RAM allocation of the host application a little higher than normal
  245. while running this software to optimize performance.
  246.  
  247. It is also advisable to work in RGB mode rather than CMYK due to
  248. the fact that images in CMYK mode generally use more system
  249. resources compared to RGB mode.

  256. If you experience a problem with Photo/Graphic Edges 4.0 that you think
  257. might be a bug, you can report it by sending a message to:

  260. Please describe in detail what you did, the edges and settings you
  261. used, any error messages, your system configuration and operating system,
  262. and any other information relevant to the for the Technical Support Team to
  263.  duplicate and troubleshoot the error.  Your message will be acknowledged 
  264. and the bug will be forwarded to our design team for review.
